Western snowberry

Symphoricarpos occidentalis

GIF-Western snowberry

Also referred to as "buckbrush", western snowberry provides cover for nesting. It is adapted to moist areas along coulees and sloughs. Both overgrazing and no grazing can contribute to the spread of snowberry. Small greenish-white berries, which contain the seeds, remain on the stems after the snow falls. Birds assist in the spread of this plant by eating the berries and distributing the seeds in their droppings.
