Western sea-blite

Suaeda depressa

GIF-Western sea-blite

This low-growing plant has fleshy, dark green, narrow leaves. At maturity this plant turns almost black. It is common in saline areas and is often associated with red samphire which is similar in texture and appearance but is red in colour. Indians and early settlers chewed the scaly rootstocks of this plant as a cure for diarrhea.
