Shorebirds of the Chaplin Lake Area

Guidelines for Watching Shorebirds

  1. Watch where you walk. Shorebirds nest on open beaches in May and June. Nests are often difficult to see. Respect warnings and private nesting habits.

  2. Do not disturb or startle birds or other wildlife.

  3. Stay on the beaten path. Wildlife are more approachable along trails and tracks.

  4. Do not touch or handle young birds or animals.

  5. Wear a hat, sunglasses and water resistant footwear and outerwear. Use sun protection on exposed skin.

  6. Bring binoculars, a spotting scope and a camera with telephoto lens to take best advantage of viewing opportunities.

  7. Pets should stay at home.

  8. Leave with everything you brought. Do not litter.

  9. Take only pictures and memories!
