Blue grama

Bouteloua gracilis

GIF-Blue grama

Grama is the Spanish word for grass. Blue Grama is adapted to drier prairie regions. Stalks produce a characteristic "eyebrow looking seedhead. The blue grama produces a dense mat of short, curly leaves and is one of the species commonly referred to as"prairie wool. It is not particularly palatable to cattle, but is eaten during autumn and early winter. This grass recovers rapidly from drought, grazing and trampling.
