For those readers who may be interested in learning more about the fate of the animal species identified by Lewis and Clark in the almost two hundred years since their expedition, the North Dakota Game and Fish Department publishes a number of informative books and magazines, including the following:

North Dakota Outdoors magazine, published ten times a year, has many articles about animals described by Lewis and Clark. The February 1998 issue has an article on recent reported sightings of black bears and mountain lions in North Dakota. The possibility of the return of wolves to North Dakota is covered in the March 1999 issue.

Feathers from the Prairie, a Short History of Upland Game Birds (1989), by Morris D. Johnson and Joseph Knue, chronicles the history of the state's game birds.

Big Game of North Dakota: A Short History, by Joseph Knue, contains information on species such as bighorn sheep, moose, elk, and bears in the state.

Of Time and the Prairie (1988), by Joseph Knue, is an informative general reader about history, geography, geology, and the importance of wildlife to the state's.

The North Dakota Wildlife Viewing Guide (Falcon Press, 1992), by Joseph Knue, will tell you how to get to more than eighty various habitats and viewing sites and will help you to explore wildlife's favorite places.
