Carex livida

- Similar Species: C. aquatilis has long-stalked lower spikes and flowers with two stigmas. C. limosa has drooping spikes on slender stalks. C. buxbaumii has pistillate flowers at tip of upper spike and long-awned scales.
- Flowering/Fruiting Period: June-August.
- Distribution: S Alaska to Newfoundland, south to California, NW Montana, Michigan, and New Jersey. Disjunct in Colorado and Wyoming (Park Co. and Yellowstone NP).
- Habitat: Floating mats, bogs, and fens. Elev. 6400-6500 ft.
