Carex alopecoidea

- Similar Species: C. vulpinoidea has an inflorescence 3-10 cm long and longer awned flower scales. C. hoodii has awnless scales and a denser, ball-like inflorescence.
- Flowering/Fruiting Period: June-July/August. Mature perigynia required for positive identification.
- Distribution: Quebec to North Dakota, south to New Jersey and Iowa. Disjunct in the Wyoming Black Hills (Crook Co.).
- Habitat: Wet meadows and streamside willow-sedge communities. Elev. 5600-5900 ft.
