Arctostaphylos rubra

- Synonyms: Arctostaphylos alpina var. rubra; Arctous rubra.
- Similar Species: A. uva-ursi has entire, evergreen leaves without noticeable sideveins and has mealy fruit. Gaultheria humifusa is smaller in stature and has fleshy-coated, capsule fruits.
- Flowering/Fruiting Period: May-June/July-September.
- Distribution: E Siberia to Newfoundland, south to Alberta; disjunct in northwestern Wyoming (Park Co.).
- Habitat: Moist, but not flooded, calcareous sites dominated by low shrubs bordering white spruce swamp forests. Elev. 6600 ft.
