27. Carex hyalinolepis Steud. -- Thinscale sedge
Quite similar to C. lacustris and sometimes treated as a variety of it,
differing chiefly as follows: Lower leaf sheaths whitish to pale brown,
not red-tinged, rarely breaking into fibers. Perigynia 5-8 mm long, with
numerous very faint nerves which are slightly elevated or impressed. Wet meadows,
marshes and swamps; rare in e and c NE; (NJ to s Ont. and NE, s to FL and TX).
