Group B-3 -- Species in group B-3 have hairs that are sclerotized and spine-like. Most of these species are Nymphalidae or Saturniidae.

Group B-3a -- Subgroups: Spines with a single point - Species in group B-3a have hairs modified into chalazae. Most of these species are Nymphalidae.
