Spicebush Swallowtail (Papilio (Pterourus) troilus)


  • BND: Spicebush Swallowtail; Papilio (Pterourus) troilus Linnaeus, 1758
  • BNA: Spicebush Swallowtail; Papilio troilus
  • NDC: PTTR
  • Habitat: Woodland clearings and open meadows. A sole historical report exists for this species. P. troilus is an Austral Zone species which could occur in ND only as a rare late-summer stray
  • Larval food: Sassafras, Lindera
  • Adult flight: Two broods, occasionally three southward within the species normal range
  • References: Royer 67, Opler & Krizek 51, Scott 183
