  • Habitat: Our subspecies, the Varuna Arctic, Oeneis uhleri varuna (W. H. Edwards, 1882), has as its type locality designation “Plains of Dakota Territory.” It inhabits well drained prairie slopes statewide, being decidedly more common westward
  • Larval food: Unknown grass sp.
  • Adult flight: One brood, mid-May into June
