Figure 5. Annual flow and five-year moving mean of annual flow on the Platte River near Overton, Nebraska. The difference (2.427 million acre-feet) between the moving mean for 1922 (2.976 million acre-feet) and 1955 (0.549 million acre-feet) is often used as an estimate of the change in mean annual flow during the major period of surface water resource development.
