Spring and fall burns were conducted for silver sagebgrush control in south-central Montana. Good control with substantial canopy reduction and at least 35% kill, was achieved with a fall burn. Conversely, spring burns could be used to encourage sprouting among palatable silver sagebrush ecotypes to improve grazing.
