Distribution of Fishes in the Red River of the North Basin on Multivariate Environmental Gradients

Petromyzontidae

Silver Lamprey

Ichthyomyzon unicuspis Hubbs & Trautman, the silver lamprey, was first reported by Renard et al. (1985) from three sites on the Red River (Figure A2). In 1992, it was reported at three sites on the Clearwater River by MDNR FISH (1994); and in 1994, it was taken in the Red, Buffalo, and Red Lake Rivers by MDNR ECO (1994). The species has been rare in the Red River basin, having been collected at only 1% of the stream sites sampled since 1962 (Table 4). Where taken, the species has not been abundant, with collections containing only 1-2 individuals.
