Distribution of Fishes in the Red River of the North Basin on Multivariate Environmental Gradients

Cyprinidae

Silver Chub

Macrhybopsis storeriana (Kirtland), the silver chub, was listed as Hybopsis storerianus by Woolman (1896), who collected it from the Red, Otter Tail, and Red Lake Rivers (Figure A23). Hankinson (1928) listed the species as Erinemus storerianus, taking it from the Red and Pembina Rivers. Most recent reports were from the Red River in the northern two-thirds of the basin and the Red Lake River. Records also exist from the Turtle, Sheyenne, and Two Rivers. The silver chub has historically not been abundant in samples; only eight individuals were taken during a survey of the Red River in 1983-84 (Renard et al. 1985). However, miscellaneous collections by MDNR ECO (1994) and cooperating agencies have taken as many as 40 individuals at a single site in 1994.
