Distribution of Fishes in the Red River of the North Basin on Multivariate Environmental Gradients
Percidae
Rainbow Darter
Etheostoma caeruleum Storer, the rainbow darter, was not reported by early investigators in the Red River basin. The first verified occurrence was from the Otter Tail River, where it was collected at five sites in 1976 by (BMNH 1994) (Figure A67). It has since been taken only from the Otter Tail River. The species has occurred at 14% of the sites sampled in the NCH ecoregion since 1962 (Table 4). Typical site collections have contained between 1-5 individuals; but, at times, as many as 56 specimens have been taken in a single sample.
