Distribution of Fishes in the Red River of the North Basin on Multivariate Environmental Gradients

Catostomidae

Golden Redhorse

Moxostoma erythrurum (Rafinesque), the golden redhorse, was not reported from the Red River basin until 1964, when four specimens were collected at three sites on the Wild Rice River in Minnesota by BMNH (1994) (Figure A14). The species has since been taken primarily from eastern basin tributaries, such as the Otter Tail, Buffalo, Wild Rice, Red Lake, and Clearwater Rivers, and it has been present at 16% of stream sites sampled since 1962 (Table 4). However, the species has been most common in reaches of the NCH ecoregion, where it has been present at 34% of sites. This species, unlike the silver redhorse, has not been collected often in the Red River.
