Distribution of Fishes in the Red River of the North Basin on Multivariate Environmental Gradients

Cyprinodontidae

Banded Killifish

Fundulus diaphanus (Lesueur), the banded killifish, was collected by Woolman (1896) from the Sheyenne River at Valley City, but was not found by other early investigators (Figure A54). The banded killifish has been reported from the Park, Turtle, Otter Tail, Pelican, Buffalo, and Clearwater Rivers and the Wild Rice River in Minnesota. The species has not been common in the Red River basin overall, having been collected at only 3% of stream sites sampled since 1962 (Table 4). It has been most abundant in streams near the mouths or outlets of lakes, including the salt lake in the Park River drainage, where conductivities have been greater than 13,000 µS/cm.
