Temperate or True Bass Family

Temperate or True Bass Family

The introduced white bass is the only member of this family in North Dakota. The dorsal fin of the bass family is separated, not joined as in the sunfish family.

White Bass

This beautiful silver-gray fish has rows of dark narrow stripes running the length of its body. At times it reproduces abundantly and good catches are made -- then the population seems to almost vanish until conditions favor it. It has done well in our large lakes and reservoirs. It is also called silver bass.
