A marine family that contains 10 species of small fishes. Some live in estuaries and others are anadromous, entering rivers and streams to spawn.
Rainbow SmeltSmelt are slender, silvery fish with a large mouth and well developed teeth and adipose fin. First stocked in Lake Sakakawea in 1971, smelt have multiplied and spread throughout the Missouri River and its reservoirs. |
