Typical adult body size ranges from 10-14 mm. Dorsal coloration is dull black or brown with bronze iridescence with punctures along back. Maculations are variable, but usually greatly reduced. Common habitat is bare or sparsely vegetated, dry, hard packed soil, typically in previously disturbed areas. This can include; forest trails, sand pits, eroded areas, sidewalks, yards. Perhaps the most generalist species of all North American cicindelids, C. punctulata can be commonly found in many different habitats, including urban or populated environments. This is a summer species with a one year life cycle. |
