Common body length is 12-16 mm. Dorsal coloration is most commonly metallic purplish-red or occasionally bright green. Elytral maculations are reduced and incomplete. This is an upland species which does not have to be directly next to water. Commonly found in sparsely vegetated or bare areas with level clay or loam soil. Meadow paths, roadsides, clearings, and grassy areas in general are all likely habitats. This is a spring/fall species with a 2-year lifecycle. |
