Size: 9-12 mm. Dorsal coloration is dark brown to dull black with incomplete and greatly variable reduced maculations. The underside is bright red giving this species its scientific name. This species is found commonly in dry upland rocky or eroded areas such as road cuts, but is also commonly encountered along sparsely vegetated trails and clearings in or near forests. This is a summer species with a one-year lifecycle. |
