No Common Name (Tetracha carolina [Linnaeus])
As a member of the more robust genus Tetracha, this species is commonly 12-20 mm in length. The elytral surface is usually dark metallic green. Large, cream-colored maculations generally referred to as apical lunules (crescent-shaped maculations at the apex of the elytra) are usually present at the posterior end of the elytra. The ventral portion of the body is commonly metallic green to dark bluish-black. This species is generally found in association with water edge habitats such as river banks, floodplains, and marshes. Peak adult activity is typically in August, but this summer species is active in July and August. This nocturnal species can attracted to artificial lights. |
