Body size from 9-12 mm. This species is highly variable with dorsal coloration ranging from light to dark brown. Elytral maculations are incomplete. Common habitats include a variety of sandy areas in the southwestern United States, including streams, lakes, ponds, and springs. It also occurs in dry or open grassy areas.
