* Louis N. Hafermehl has served as the director, Division of Archeology and Historic Preservation, SHSND since 1978. A novice bird-watcher, this paper was inspired by his chance presence when the H.A. Shaw Collection was removed from storage and opened for inventory in the fall of 1988.
