Lake Ilo National Wildlife Refuge lies in gently rolling, mixed grass prairie in a semi-arid region. It is an oasis for many species of wildlife. The refuge was established in 1939 following the impoundment of the 1,240 acre Lake Ilo. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service manages the land for diversity of wildlife with emphasis on migratory birds. The grasslands, planted forested areas, Lake Ilo and numerous smaller wetlands are habitat for many species of animals.
This list includes all wildlife species seen on the Refuge. It includes 226 birds, 38 mammals, 6 reptiles, 3 amphibians and 11 fish species.
