* - Species not recorded on BLM land but on other lands in Mesa and western Garfield Counties

ABUNDANCE CODES by SEASON
(Apply only to the Grand Junction Resource Area)

C = Common - likely to be found in suitable habitat in one day's search
U = Uncommon - can usually be found in suitable habitat in a two day's search or common locally or briefly during migration
R = Rare - can usually be found in suitable habitat in a week or briefly during migration
E = Extremely rare - unreported in most years
I = Irregular - abundance varies extremely from year to year

This checklist contains 210 birds that are known to occur on BLM lands in the GJRA. Additionally, 112 birds that occur in Mesa and western Garfield Counties that have not yet been found on BLM lands are included.

Information sources are BLM records; Dexter, Levad, & Moran, 1995, Bird Check List for Mesa County, Colorado (Grand Valley Audubon Soc.); and Andrews & Righter, 1992, Colorado Birds. This list of birds is arranged in the order of the A.O.U. Checklist of North American Birds, 6th Edition, 1983.
