Bird Checklist for Geary, Pottawatomie, and Riley counties. This list is also reasonably accurate for much of the Northern and Central Flint Hills, including Clay, Wabaunsee, Morris, Chase, Lyon, Marshall, and Washington counties. Updated September, 1995.


* - documented breeding: nest found, newly fledged young

S - March-May
S - June-August
F - September-November
W - December-February

a - abundant: almost always found in appropriate habitat in large numbers.
c - common: usually found in appropriate habitat, numbers variable.
u - uncommon: reproducibly present from year to year, may not be routinely sighted.
o - occassional: presence highly variable, habitat may also be seasonally variable.
r - rare: only a few verified sightings.
