Seney National Wildlife Refuge

small state map showing location

Seney, Michigan

The Seney National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1935 for the protection and production of waterfowl and other wildlife. Today, more than ever, we are dedicated to preserving its wildlands for wildlife.

A rich mosaic of marsh, swamp, bog, and forest, nearly two-thirds of the refuge's 95,455 acres is wetlands. This biological diversity provides suitable habitat for over 200 species of birds. As you visit the refuge, keep in mind that, like all wild animals, each bird requires a certain habitat to survive. As one habitat blends into another, bird communities will change just as seasons change.

Loons, Bald Eagles, and Sandhill Cranes are a few of the many birds that may be seen along the Marshland Wildlife Drive and the Pine Ridge Nature Trail. If you should find an interesting or unusual species, please let us know at the Visitor Center or Refuge Headquarters. We will enjoy sharing this information with other visitors.
