The Watchable Wildlife Program is a nationwide effort to increase wildlife viewing opportunities, to educate people about the needs of wildlife and to promote wildlife conservation. As "watchable wildlife," birds bring to mind the importance of central Upper Michigan in preserving our natural heritage of wildlands.
THIS CHECKLIST WAS DERIVED FROM DATA GATHERED OVER THE FIRST FOUR YEARS OF THE HIAWATHA BREEDING BIRD SURVEY. WE HOPE IT PROVES USEFUL TO YOU.
Breeding species are marked with an asterisk. Other species are considered to be migrants or strays. Abundance and habitat are noted for breeding species. A.O.U. nomenclature is used.
