The status assigned to each species is as follows:

(A) - Abundant - species observed repeatedly in proper habitat at the time of year indicated.
(C) - Common - species observed frequently in nearly all proper habitat at the time of year indicated.
(UC) - Uncommon - species observed infrequently in proper habitat at the time of the year indicated, but does occur regularly.
(R) - Rare - species observed infrequently in proper habitat at the time of the year indicated, may be seen once or twice per year.
(O) - Occasional - species has been observed no more than a few times, but irregular observations are likely to take place over a period of years.
(X) - Accidental - species has been recorded only a time or two and further observations are considered unlikely.

Status Key

3 - A, C
2 - UC, R
1 - O,X

The higher the number the better the chance of observing the species. If the number one appears, the species cannot be expected to be observed, but observations are possible. An X indicates a single observation.

Species marked with an (L) were observed by Thomas H. Langlois betweeen 1936-1961 and due to habitat change since then, the species marked would be unusual sightings in present times. All other observations by Stan Wulkowicz.

Species marked with an (N) have nested on the island.
