Bird Checklists of the United States

Morris Wetland Management District

Morris, Minnesota

The Morris Wetland Management District was established in 1964 to preserve and protect habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife. Over 240 units known as Waterfowl Production Areas (WPA's) are located within the seven-county district. A collection of wetlands, prairie, riverine and other upland habitat types provide food and shelter for 282 species of birds.

The following bird list was compiled from station records and the knowledge of local ornithologists. Species listed can be found in one or more of the seven counties: Big Stone, Chippewa, Lac Qui Parle, Pope, Stevens, Swift, Traverse and Yellow Medicine. Although some species may be common to the area, they may not be seen due to their secretive nature.

This birdlist is in accordance with the Sixth American Ornithologist's Union of North American birds as amended.
