Hamden Slough National Wildlife Refuge

small state map showing location

Audubon, Minnesota

Legend

Hamden Slough is located on the very eastern edge of the Tall Grass Prairie. It is an area of transition, with the northern hardwood forest ecosystem only two miles to the east. As a result, refuge bird diversity is impressive.

This is a list of 209 bird species that have been recorded since the refuge was established in 1989. The 15 addtitonal species listed as "Casual" have been reported, but are not normally expected to occur here.

Visiting birders are encouraged to share their sightings with refuge staff. This assistance with keeping refuge records current is greatly appreciated.
