Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center

Little River National Wildlife Refuge is nearly 15,000 acres of wonderful birding habitat. The Refuge was established in 1987 to protect bottomland hardwood habitat and is the finest remaining example of this type of habitat remaining in Oklahoma.
Within the Refuge you will find several different habitat types which are generally described in "habitats," to the right of each species.

f - Open grassland, fields

W - Winter: December, January, February
* - Known to nest on the Refuge
Relative Abundance
C - Common: certain to be seen in suitable habitat, often in numbers
U - Uncommon: present in suitable habitat, usually in small numbers
O - Occasional: seldom seen even in suitable habitat
R - Rare: not present every year; fluctuates in occurrence and numbers
M - Migrates overhead but does not normally stop on the Refuge
