Hagerman Refuge has recorded 316 species of birds that have been seen on the refuge since its establishment in 1946. Of these, 273 are abundant to rare in occurance and are listed seasonally. Another 43 species, seen once or twice, are considered accidental and are listed at the end. the information reflected in this list was compiled by refuge staff, volunteers, and visiting ornithologists. Species are listed in accordance with the Sixth Edition of the A.O.U. Check-list as amended (1983). Accepted new names are used.
