Deep Fork National Wildlife Refuge

The Deep Fork National Wildlife Refuge is one of more than 500 refuges throughout the United States. These National Wildlife Refuges are administrated by the Department of the Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service. The Fish and Wildlife Service mission is to work with others "to conserve fish and wildlife and their habitat."

This leaflet lists 254 species of birds that may been seen on the refuge, and is in accordance with the sixth Edition of the A.O.U. checklist as amended. Accepted new names are used.


Symbols used in this list are defined as follows:

Sp   Spring - March-May
S   Summer - June-August
F   Fall - September-November
W   Winter - December-February

A - Abundant: A common species that is very numerous
C - Common: Certain to be seen in suitable habitats
U - Uncommon: Present, but not certain to be seen
O - Occasional: Seen few times during a season
R - Rare: Seen at intervals of 2 to 5 years
X - Accidental: Has been seen only once or twice
