Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Keyport

NUWC Division Keyport provides testing and evaluation, engineering, maintenance and repair, fleet support and industrial base support for undersea warfare and weapons systems, countermeasures and sonar systems. It is the main facility of four geographically separated groups supporting undersea warfare operations. Locates 14 miles north of Bremerton in Kitsap County, NUWC Keyport's 250 acres consists of industrial, office and residential development. Forests and wetlands and a logoon occupy nearly 1/3 of the land.

Nature trails have been constructed along two of the wetland areas, for wildlife viewing and recreation. Wetland enhancement projects include planting buffer zones to protect with native vegetation. Currently underway is a program to remove non-native invasive species on site, and a bird nest box and bat roost box installation project.

Military activities preclude access by the public except with special permission. Please contact the Center's Natural Resources Manager at 206-396-7090 for information.

Navy Natural Resources and Land Management Program

The Navy and Marine Corps manage more than four million acres worldwide. Much of this land is located in sensitive wetlands along valuable coastlines, some of the most ecologically significant areas in the world. The location of our real estate holdings makes it imperative that we plan and execute our various military missions in harmony with our environment. It is a Department of the Navy goal to promote and environmental ethic within the Navy workforce.

The Department of the Navy supports numerous partnerships with other Federal, State, local and private resource groups to promote such programs as the North American Waterfowl Management Plan, Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation, Wetlands Protection and Enhancement, and Watchable Wildlife.

To succeed in its mission, and to earn public confidence, the Navy must emphasize natural resources stewardship in every aspect of its land use. It does. Come see for yourself and discover our resources.
