Carson City, Nevada


The Carson City District of the Bureau of Land Management manages about 5.1 million acres of public lands. A wide variety of habitats, from Ponderosa pine to desert playas, offers a great variety of bird life.

Listed are 266 species which have been recorded in the district. Birds italicized are federally listed as threatened or endangered, or are candidate species for threatened or endangered status. Some birds, once considered vermin, are now protected by state law.

This list was compiled through cooperative assistance from the Lahontan Chapter of the Audubon Society; Nevada State Museum; University of Nevada, Reno; Nevada Department of Wildlife; and the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife.
