Breeding Birds of North Dakota

Orange-crowned warbler (Vermivora celata (Say))

Breeding Range. Hypothetical. Probable breeding status is suggested by records of adults during the nesting season. On June 30, 1962, at least one singing male, possibly two, was observed in a brushy thicket in the Pembina Hills of Cavalier County, about 6 miles north-northwest of Vang; and on June 28, 1964, one singing male was recorded at the same location (RES). On May 23, 1971, Paul F. Springer observed two birds, including one singing male at the same location. A specimen collected in the Turtle Mountains on July 9, 1902 was sent to the U. S. Biological Survey and identified by Harry C. Oberholser.
