Breeding Birds of North Dakota

Saw-whet owl (Aegolius acadicus (Gmelin))

Breeding Range. Hypothetical. Three records of adults during the breeding season in northeastern North Dakota suggest the possibility of breeding status. These records are listed as follows:

April 13, 1898--The fluting calls of this species were heard at Pembina, indicating that the bird was probably on its breeding ground (Peabody 1901).

June 10-14, 1915--One collected at Grafton (H. V. Williams).

June 15, 1961--One heard calling in a wooded ravine near the south shore of Devils Lake (RES).
