Osprey (Pandion haliaetus (Linnaeus))

Breeding Range. In 1973, from May 2 to May 9, John Martinson and Frank A. Splendoria observed Ospreys constructing a nest on a power transmission line tower near the Garrison Dam in McLean County. This nest was blown down by strong winds on May 9. Mr. Martinson had observed Ospreys here during several previous summers. Likewise, in this area, George W. Enyeart and Edwin A. Hibbard observed Ospreys regularly in summer in 1969 and during several preceding years. In 1952, Ed Bry observed a pair on frequent occasions in summer at Homme Dam in Walsh County. On June 17, 1972, an Osprey was observed in Walsh County at Matejcek Dam, about six miles south of Lankin (F. J. Schmisek). osprey
