Breeding Range. (Fig. 135). Regular occurrence as an uncommon breeding species in the Turtle Mountains within Bottineau and Rolette Counties; rare in the wooded deltaic sand area of Pembina County that extends southeast for about 15 miles from Walhalla.
Breeding Habitat. Largely restricted to stands of mature quaking aspen with fairly dense, closed canopies.
Nesting. On August 3, 1967, an adult was observed feeding a nearly full-grown young bird in Pembina County about 1 mile southwest of Akra (P. F. Springer).
