Group B-2 -- The body of species in group B-2 is covered with dense patches of hairs, at least seven per segment per side above the spiracular line. Species are grouped by the location of dense hair patches and the length of hairs. Among the numerous families that fit the description of this group are Arctiidae, Hesperiidae, Lasiocampidae, Lycaenidae, Lymantriidae, some Noctuidae, and Satyridae.
Group B-2a -- Subgroups: Hairs different lengths - Species in group B-2a have hairs that are equal to or longer than half the width of the body.
- Middorsal tufts of short, dense hairs
- Sublateral long, dense hairs
- At least half covered in long hairs
- Less than half covered in long hairs
