Group B-1 -- Species in Group B-1 are grouped by the appearance of the body wall and color patterns. Most of these species are either Gelechiidae, Noctuidae, Notodontidae, Papilionidae, Plutellidae, Sphingidae, or Tortricidae. As an exception, note the caterpillar of the monarch butterfly has four long filamentous tubercles, see group B-1b.
Group B-1b -- Subgroups: Body wall with smooth, except monarch butterfly - Species in group B-1b have a smooth body wall that is not extended into bumps, warts, tubercles, or horns. As an exception note the caterpillar of the monarch butterfly has four long filamentous tubercles.
