Group B-1 -- Species in Group B-1 are grouped by the appearance of the body wall and color patterns. Most of these species are either Gelechiidae, Noctuidae, Notodontidae, Papilionidae, Plutellidae, Sphingidae, or Tortricidae. As an exception, note the caterpillar of the monarch butterfly has four long filamentous tubercles, see group B-1b.
Group B-1a -- Subgroups: Body wall with swellings - Species in group B-1a have the body wall extended into assymetrical swellings, short tubercles, small warts; or a horn on A8.
