Land-use History Survey SOP
Information on land-use history will vary by wetland and may not be available for all sites. Land-use history will include: type of drainage, age of restoration, number of years ponded since restoration, length of time drained, completeness of drainage, and cropping history. Age of restoration and type of drainage information will be gathered during the wetland selection process. Procedures for the collection of remaining land-use history variables will consist of gathering information from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), NRCS, state agencies, and landowner interviews.
- 3.1 List of Extensive Variables:
- Type of Drainage:
- Age of Restoration
- Number of Years Ponded Since Restoration
- Length of Time Drained
- Completeness of Drainage
- Cropping History
- Type of drainage:
- Type of action used to drain wetlands (e.g., surface drain, tile drain, or pumped).
- Age of restoration:
- Refers to the time since the construction completion date to restore a wetland.
- Number of years ponded since restoration:
- Refers to the number of years a restored wetland was ponded since the
construction completion date (this may differ from the age of the restoration).
- Length of timed drained:
- Refers to the length of time a wetland was drained prior to restoration.
- Cropping history:
- Refers to the type of cropping that has occurred within the wetland basin and surrounding catchment watershed (e.g., idle grassland, pasture, hayland, small grains, rowcrop).
