Evaluation of Restored Wetlands in the Prairie Pothole Region:
Research Design and Overview
A prairie pothole wetland that was completely filled with sediment during a precipitation event in 1994. Sediment is the major pollutant of wetlands, lakes, rivers, and estuaries in the United States (see review by Gleason and Euliss 1998)
A prairie pothole wetland that developed a monoculture of reed canary grass rather than the diversity of vegetation usually found in nondisturbed wetlands. Such monocultures are of limited value to wildlife and will require additional efforts to reestablish the original plant community.
