Jamestown man receives TWS honor

Dr. Douglas Johnson, leader of the Grassland Ecosystem Initiative Team at Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center in Jamestown, recently received the North Dakota Award from the North Dakota Chapter of the Wildlife Society.

The award is presented annually to a wildlife professional who has made outstanding contributions over the course of his or her career. Johnson was recognized for his dedicated efforts to innovate research to develop new statistical methods for determining waterfowl nest success and as a pioneer in using modeling to understand complex ecological problems.

Johnson received the award at the annual awards banquet in Mandan, Feb. 11.

"It is the chapter's honor to recognize Doug Johnson's distinguished list of accomplishments and his willingness to assist others in their pursuits," said Bill Bicknell, president of the North Dakota Chapter of the Wildlife Society. "He is internationally recognized as one of the world's leading scientists in his field."

Johnson has written approximately 150 publications since coming to Northern Prairie in the early 1970's.
